Using TpT files

At the May Technology Committee meeting, the safe usage of TpT items was discussed. The following is an explanation of the approved process for using files from TpT.

  1. Teachers download files from TpT on their home network and save them to a blank USB flash drive. Files are not to be downloaded using the KV network. The USB flash drive should not contain anything else besides the TpT files, and should not be used on any KV computer other than as described below.
  2. Teachers should create a Help Desk ticket to schedule a time to bring their files to IT. There is a new category in the Help Desk named "TpT File Scan". Please use this category when creating a ticket to schedule a scan.
  3. Teachers bring these files on a USB flash drive to the building IT office at the scheduled time.
  4. IT Staff will scan the flash drive using a selection of malware/virus scanners on a stand-alone, "sandbox" computer (not connected to the KV network).
  5. After the scan is complete, one copy of each document will be printed to the stand-alone, sandbox printer connected directly to the sandbox computer. The USB flash drive will then be erased to prevent accidental use on the school network.
  6. Teachers may then make copies of the printed documents on the copiers. Teachers should always keep one "master copy" of the printed document for future use.
  7. Teachers may also scan the printed copy as a PDF file using one of the copy machines to keep for future use in Google Drive.

By utilizing this process, teachers will be able to use files from TpT, while at the same time taking necessary precautions to keep the KV network safe.

Files from TpT should never be opened/used on any computer or printer that is connected to the KV network.
